Hallelujah

Love is a cold and broken Hallelujah

It pushes forward and burns right thru ya.

There’s no escaping unless you want to.

It will make you listen and wrestle you through

the echo chambers of our politics

the liberal and conservative metrics

we use to convince ourselves we are right

and condemn all others to the fight

of struggle to finally see the “truth” that

“this” guy is THE guy who is the proof

that we are on God’s side of His perfect will

to condemn others who vote wrong but still

we hold out hope that this time things will change

back to the “good ‘ole days” but it’s strange

that we never see these days ARE those days

so we just have NOW to see the ways

we can pull the promise of a better life

into the present passed the political strife

that has ripped us apart in this year.

So many deaths with so many tears.

Still there’s kindness, honor, respect and hope

The main instruments we use to cope

with the social media “experts” and there are many

who will explain how to be free from racism and tyranny

Injustice, corruption and all that “fake news”

so here’s another source that you all can use

to convince yourself that you are free from all the lies

that misled all those others with so many tries

of finally the TRUTH, WE found the answers!

Our pride of certainty is one of the cancers

That has lead us to make decisions based in fear

Because those who know better left us here.

Today is the only day in all the days that will be

And today may be the only way for you to finally see

There will always be unsatisfying elections

along with those misinformed perceptions.

You think you are commenting on the facts

But your agenda has lead to all these attacks.

So you respond, you defend and you shove

But your words mean nothing without love

That can at least acknowledge you may be wrong

And that love is more than a word in a song.

I’ve seen your banner and how it waves.

But I missed the message from how you behave.

Shame on us all for the words we’ve chose

to attack our neighbor and demean our “foes”.

All of us are guilty for the love we left out

Holding peace for ransom and turning faith to doubt

There’s no way back. Just a way to begin.

For we can’t make America great again.

There’s no moral majority that will rise

to solve the problems before our eyes.

It will always take me but also you

if this country will ever break through

to the promise of greatness I think we can see

If you be the best you and I’ll be the best me.
